Registration Process

Unsupervised Adult Climbing Registration

You must be over 18 to register as an adult unsupervised user of UHI Perth Climbing Centre

Climbing: We will give you a free induction to the wall and boulder area and an instructor will ask you to do a quick practical demonstration on arrival to check that you are a competent climber.

Boulder Only: If you are registering to use the boulder area only you will receive a boulder specific induction.

Registration: All registrations are now completed online. This includes reading and understanding the Conditions of Use and Rules of UHI Perth Climbing Centre, entering personal details and answering questions to clarify your level of competency. Once you have completed this registration you will automatically be added to our secure database and just need to report to reception on each visit. You will be required to re-register every 3 years.

Practical Demonstrations and Boulder Inductions

It is our policy to observe a practical demonstration of all new customers who wish to register as an unsupervised climber. This is a very brief process where we observe you fitting a harness, tying in and belaying. Also, anyone who wishes to register to use the bouldering area only must go through a boulder induction where a member of staff will give information on safe practice.

Guest/Novice Climbing Registration

A registered unsupervised adult climber may sign in up to 2 novices/guests under their supervision. Please note it is our policy that no novices can belay without direct supervision on the ground. They will be completely responsible for their guests at all times and ensure that their guests understand and adhere to the Conditions of Use. Parental consent is required for guests under 16. Supervising adults must complete a Guest Supervision form for each guest/novice on arrival and each guest novice must complete the appropriate one off consent form (U16 form and 16+ form)

Junior Unsupervised Climbing Registration

Juniors from age 14 - 17 with experience are able to register as unsupervised climbers following completion of the following:

  • Register as boulder only, top roping/bouldering or lead climbing.
  • Practical competency check assessed by one of our instructors. This will involve checks of harness fitting, tying in to the harness using an appropriate knot, belaying, holding a fall, lowering a climber, and safe bouldering techniques
  • 14 and 15 year olds should be accompanied by parents for this competency check
  • Satisfactory answers to a few basic questions
  • Understanding of Conditions of Use and Rules of UHI Perth Climbing Centre
  • Satisfactory completion of a registration form by both the Junior and their Parent/Legal Guardian
  • Parental consent

We do require these Junior Practical Checks to be in advance

External Instructors and Groups

We require all external instructors to complete an prior to arrival. This includes details of First Aid qualification, climbing qualifcation and insurance. You will be required to email in advance or bring copies of these documents with you on the first visit.

We can invoice instructors for use of the wall - please just in advance.

We recommend contacting us prior to bringing a group to the centre as we may not be able to accommodate you depending on our commitments.
