What is special about this course?

Developed to support the needs of senior managers, this SCQF level 11 qualification in Strategic Management and Leadership gives you the opportunity to focus on implementing your organisation’s strategy. This qualification is designed for directors and senior managers who have the authority and personal inspiration to translate organisational strategy into effective performance and to focus on the requirements of their inter-organisational strategy. 

The Strategic Management and Leadership qualifications are available on a part-time and flexible basis.

Entry requirements

  • An SCQF level 9 qualification or equivalent eg an Ordinary degree
  • Alternatively a level 8 qualification, such as a Higher National Diploma or Diploma in Higher Education, with relevant work experience, will also be considered on an individual basis

Year 1 - Award

The level 11 Award will build on the managerial skills and knowledge you already have and the various roles and responsibilities involved in strategic management. You can tailor content of this course and topics may include:

  • Strategic performance management
  • Organisation direction
  • Strategic planning

The Award is typically 1 unit of study with a minimum credit value of 6 credits.

Year 2 - Certificate

A more extensive qualification, the level 11 Certificate gives you a broader knowledge of effective management skills while focusing on the specific management areas appropriate to you and your workplace. Topics may include:

  • Strategic information management
  • Financial management

The Certificate is typically 2 or 3 units of study with a minimum credit value of 13 credits.

Year 3 - Diploma

With a comprehensive structure, our level 11 Diploma gives you all the key skills and competencies you will need to become an effective strategic manager. Subjects may include:

  • Strategic performance management
  • Financial management
  • Organisational direction
  • Strategic marketing
  • Human resource planning

The Diploma is typically 5 or 6 units of study with a minimum credit value of 39 credits.

Year 4 - Extended Diploma

To achieve the award of Extended Diploma you must successfully complete 8 or 9 units of study with a minimum credit value of 66 credits.

  • You will have a tailored study plan prepared and have the opportunity to attend face-to-face workshops (subject to numbers)

How long will my course last?

Information below gives an indication of length of study, however we will build a study plan with you to meet your own needs.

  • Award: 2 months
  • Certificate: 4 months
  • Diploma: 12 months (additional 6 - 9 months if you have already completed the Certificate)

You may be eligible for a part-time grant fee of £500 from SAAS or £200 from ILA. More details on these funding options.

There are opportunities to progress within this level from Award to Certificate to Diploma, it may be possible to use the qualification as entry to one of our Masters in Business Administration.
