Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles Level 6/7
What is special about this course?
Following on from year 1 the “L5 Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles” only, this year 2 “L7 Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles” programme builds upon previous knowledge and focuses on the diagnosis and repair of complex faults. You will explore a comprehensive range of vehicle systems theory including the diagnostic skills relevant, for the correct selection and use of specialist test equipment and repair techniques on everyday light vehicles. On successful completion, you may be able to enter the industry as an apprentice technician.
With the changes in industry towards electrical and hybrid vehicle technology you will also cover an awareness of Electric & Hybrid vehicle technology, ensuring you have the base knowledge for working safely on these vehicles.
Similar to all other programmes this course also includes the remaining core skills Problem Solving and Working With Others, as typically required for modern apprenticeship attainment. If you successfully complete this programme you will leave with a Level 7 technical award in light vehicle maintenance and repair principles from the awarding body IMI (The Institute of the Motor Industry), which is recognised nationally for trade-based awards.
Furthermore, if you successfully complete both first and this second year you will leave with a Level 5 and 7 technical award in maintenance and repair of light vehicles, both of which are key components to a modern apprenticeship, thus gaining these on a full-time basis can greatly simplify the modern apprenticeship route.
