What is special about this course?
Horticulture and landscaping have always been strong areas for employment across Perth and Kinross. Estates, ornamental gardens, nurseries, retail outlets and domestic properties in the area allow businesses to take root and grow and provide work for those with an interest and desire in following a career in horticulture. This course offers you a chance to gain practical skills in a range of important gardening and landscaping skills to get you started in a career in the horticultural trade.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course however, study up to SCQF Level 4 is desirable and you should be able to demonstrate a clear interest in pursuing a career in this field. The selection process will include a discussion of your application at interview.
You will study a range of hard landscaping subjects such as:
- Laying paving and mono-blocking;
- Fencing;
- Wallling;
- Soft landscaping subjects including planting and plant maintenance, lawn care.
You will also study some theory of horticulture including plant identification, soils, plant nutrition, pests and diseases. You will also be placed on work experience with a horticultural company as part of your course.

Most full-time students will have their fees paid.
Students on part-time courses may also be eligible to have their course fees waived.
What can I do on completion of my course?
The NC Horticulture can prepare you for further study at a higher level such as HNC Landscape Management or Horticulture.
The NC Horticulture provides the basic skills for seeking employment with a horticultural company in areas such as landscaping, amenity horticulture, environmental services, plant maintenance, domestic gardening contracts or estate work.
