Digital Design and Game Development NQ
What is special about this course?
The NQ Level 4 Digital Design and Games Development is an exciting new course, which introduces you to a range of practical skills, essential to working effectively within the digital design and games industry today. The course provides you with the opportunity to identify and explore your creative passions and interests. In doing so, you will learn the fundamentals of computer hardware, computer software, games design and development, animation, video, photography and the creation of web content.
The course can act as a bridge between Next Steps and the NQ Applied Computing course or NQ Art and Design. The course also offers the potential for progression onto HNC Visual Communication and HNC Computing.
Entry requirements
Successful completion of Next Steps to Learning or similar course. Completion of a numeracy, communications or a computing related subject at National 3. As part of your application, you will be invited for an interview.
This FE programme is offered at UHI Perth and follows the same structure as other 18 credit, full time FE programmes with the inclusion of Communications, Numeracy, PDP, and Work Experience. It would be expected that students achieve a minimum of 15 credits for progression onto the NQ Applied Computing or NQ Art and Design programmes.

General Skills
The course includes Personal Development Planning, Numeracy, and Communications in support of core skills. Cyber Security Fundamentals offer an opportunity to develop an entry level understanding of the cyber security challenges and responsibilities, common amongst workers in a digital economy.
Industry Skills
The programme is designed to help learners identify where their strengths and interests are within computing, games development and digital design.
Computing – A range of introductory units to help develop your understanding of computer programming, hardware and systems create foundational knowledge and skills relevant to applied computing roles and specialisms.
Digital Design – A foundation of knowledge and skills in working with a range of media and design tools is included. This covers an introduction to computer animation, image, audio, and video acquisition, editing and web content development.
Games Development and design project units, contribute to the realisation of practical skills and experience capable of spanning both areas of specialism.
