Music NQ
What is special about this course?
This course will provide the solid foundation you need to be a successful musician. You'll perform and record live music and learn how to best promote your band. You'll also learn about theory and history of music and develop skills on your chosen instrument. Whether you are planning a career in the modern music industry or simply feel you would benefit from a year spent in an exciting musical environment, this course will set you on the right track.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for NQ Music however entry is subject to Audition, interview and diagnostic written test. As a SQCF L6 course you are expected to have writing ability of L4; there are written assignments that you will undertake for your modules and units.
On application you will be asked to attend an audition and selection process which will give you the opportunity to see our campus, meet staff and learn more about the course.
The selection process will demonstrate the resources and learning opportunities we offer to support your development.
As part of the interview process, you will be asked to perform a piece on your chosen instrument. We suggest you pick a piece that demonstrates your skillset on your instrument or voice, and for writers, this can be an original composition or song. The instruments we currently accept for NC are vocals; guitar; bass; drums; keyboards and/or piano.

Classes are designed to make you a more accomplished and confident musician. You will have the opportunity to develop by studying:
- First study
- Live performance skills
- Music business
- Music theory
- Songwriting
- Appreciation of music
- Midi sequencing
- Sound recording and production
You will also have the opportunity to form a band as part of your course and book out studio and/or the rehearsal rooms throughout the course.

Most full-time students will have their fees paid.
Students on part-time courses may also be eligible to have their course fees waived.
What can I do on completion of my course?
After successful completion of this NQ you will be considered for entry to our HNC Music programme. You could then continue on to get a BA (Hons) in Popular Music.
If you choose not to continue your studies, you can utilise your skills to find employment in the music industry, within education, private teaching, lecturing, music performing, composing, retail, community programmes and studio recording
