Social Services and Healthcare SVQ3

What is special about this course?

Learn while you work with Modern Apprenticeships (MAs) and Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs). Modern apprenticeships in Scotland are available for people who are aged over 16 and in employment. With on-the-job training and regular meetings in the workplace you can gain a recognised qualification without studying full-time. Funding for MAs can be gained from Skills Development Scotland.

Social Services and Healthcare vocational qualification (VQ) Level 3 allows you to register with the Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC).  It supports you to enhance your practice and understand the legalities surrounding the work you carry out.  It is a legal requirement that individuals who work in care hold a qualification relevant to their job role.

It is a work based course and your assessor will meet and work with you on a one-to-one basis in your place of work.  No college attendance is required but you will have full use of all college facilities, including student services and the library.

You are assessed on how well you practice and on your underpinning knowledge of the care standards, codes of practice, further legislation and theories relevant to your client groups.

Entry requirements

You must have at least six months experience working in a care environment and a good understanding of the English language.  At this level you will be expected to be completing care plans.

You will be observed in your practice by a qualified assessor.  Support will be given to you to enable you to write accounts based on your day to day practice.  You will be expected to research relevant legislation, work base policies, theories relating to your client group, care standards and codes of practice.
