Perth College UHI Basketball Team Through to Semi-Finals
At the top of their game, Perth College UHI Basketball team scored 95-34 against North East Scotland College in the Scottish Student Sport Basketball Cup Quarter-finals on Wednesday 20 April.
After their fantastic effort in February at the University of St Andrews, the team made it through to the quarter-finals. It was all over by the first half when the College Basketball team scored a huge majority. Semi-finals will take place Wednesday 4 May.
With exciting times ahead for the team, as of Thursday 21 April the College agreed to fund the team’s brand new strips. The College Basketball Team has also been nominated for an OBI Award- Most improved/developed club/society.
The competition is run by the Scottish Student Sport in which all universities were encouraged to participate. Hoping to set up his own team, HND Coaching and Developing Sport student, Ryan Tierney approached Perth College UHI Students’ Association in which the Association offered to help him set up the club which would be open to students of all course disciplines. The Association also supported the club with funding including transportation.
President John Dare says, “We are extremely proud of our team and looking forward to the semi-finals.” He further explains, “We are looking forward to the new Academy for Sport for Wellbeing opening for the 2016 academic session, this will offer clubs and societies a fantastic facility and would encourage further participation from the College.”
