Perth College UHI Basketball Team Win College Nationals
Showing them how it’s done, the newly formed Basketball Team at Perth College UHI were victorious at the Scottish Student Sport College National Finals against City of Glasgow College recently hosted at The University of Stirling.
The gold medal winning College team were a steady nine points ahead at the end of each quarter. After what was an exciting match, the final score came to 93-72. The Academy of Sport and Wellbeing Commercial Manager, Gareth McKenna also came to the final to support the team.
Having shown exemplary leadership, Perth College UHI student and Basketball Team Coach, Ryan Tierney shares his journey, “I started the Basketball team by approaching the Students’ Association last year. President John Dare helped me vastly with the development of the Basketball Team and as the team were gaining interest I booked training sessions at a local school. I put a team of guys together from various academic disciplines, we just clicked straight away and we played well together as a team.
“We have progressed from the moment the team was formed to win 11 games, winning tournaments and becoming more of a winning team each day! Through the Scottish Student Sport College National Cup we played many tough and challenging games and have won the championship with a great performance! I am very proud of my team and the achievements we have made. We are looking forward to the future and what is to come.”
Perth College UHI Students’ Association President, John Dare says, “Our Basketball Team is a prime example of what a club should be. Students take on the roles of running the club, while the Association do all the background logistics required for such a project. Ryan has been the driving force of the team and the team fully deserve their OBI Award for Best Club or Society which they recently won.”
