Professor Martin Price elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh

Professor Martin Price, Director of the Centre for Mountain Studies based at Perth College UHI, has been elected as a fellow of The Royal Society of Edinburgh for his contribution to public engagement and understanding. He joins 66 new members including leading figures from academia, public service, business and the Arts.

Professor Martin Price said: ‘I am honoured to receive this recognition for my work in communicating science to diverse audiences. Some scientists are excellent researchers, focusing on producing new knowledge; some, like me, focus much of their effort on making sure that science can be understood and used. This has long been a key principle for me, whether writing, speaking, or organising conferences and other meetings.’

Dr Margaret Cook, Principal and Chief Executive at Perth College UHI, said: ‘I would like to congratulate Martin for his recent election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Through his life’s work, Martin has provided an outstanding contribution to the field of Mountain Studies. I am delighted that he has received this recognition of his hard work and dedication.’

Professor Clive Mulholland, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Highlands and Islands, added: ‘I am delighted that Martin has been elected as a fellow of The Royal Society of Edinburgh. Martin is the first of our Professors to receive this honour and it is a fitting recognition of his commitment to sharing knowledge on and inspiring passion about our mountainous regions.’
