Students create new art display at Perth Museum and Art Gallery
Contemporary Art Practice (CAP) HND students partnered up with Culture Perth and Kinross to create a new display at Perth Museum and Art Gallery.
CAPinet of Curiosities has been created by the HND students using their experience of lockdown to influence their art.
The students worked online with Barbara Hamilton, Learning and Communities Officer at Culture Perth and Kinross and were encouraged to produce art to share their personal stories and learn about exhibition preparation in a museum.
The students involved in the project were encouraged to create freely and any medium they wished. Working from home, they created a working brief, time plan, details of what they were investigating, materials, tools, and equipment to be used; how they would undertake the project and plan to maintain safe working practices.
A wide selection of materials was used, and the exhibition labels, written by the students, explain their inspiration for and meaning in each piece of work.
Simon Reekie, Programme Leader in Art and Contemporary Practices said: “Taking part in an exhibition and understanding how the exhibition process works has been great for the student’s self-esteem and confidence and helped them to complete a component of their HND.”
You can see the work on display in the main rotunda of Perth Museum and Art Gallery until 13th June 2021.
