English for Speakers of Other Languages

Please read through the following important information in preparation for the interview. 

Interview and level testing for ESOL applicants.

When you come to college for an interview, you will also be level tested.  We will assess your speaking and listening, your writing, and your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.

Grammar and Vocabulary.

You will have a multiple-choice test that assesses your grammar and vocabulary knowledge.  This will take no longer than 40 minutes. 

Writing

We will give you a topic to write about when you are in the classroom.  We want to know what your writing skills are like, so you don’t need to prepare anything before you come.  This task will take up to 30 minutes.

Speaking and listening

There will be an interview.  We will ask some questions about you, and you will be able to ask us questions about the course.  While you are talking, we will be assessing your listening and speaking skills.  This will take about 10 minutes.

 

The interview and level test will take between 1.5 and 2 hours.
