Toni Alexander
We visited Toni, the Spa Manager at Bannatyne Perth, to see the spa and discuss their current vacancies. Toni was a HND Beauty Therapy student here at UHI Perth and finished her HND two years ago. Toni has already had a successful career working her way up to Spa Manager.
How did your HND prepare you for industry?
The HND qualification showed me a huge variety of treatments and allowed me to taste all parts of beauty. The Hair and Beauty staff were really friendly, and my college experience was really enjoyable.
What advice would you give to someone completing their beauty qualification?
To do as many practicals as possible in the training environment. Practicing on people you don’t know is important and other genders to get used to different clients and reduce nerves.
What is the best part of your job?
I love helping clients and creating different offers for the spa. I love that Bannatyne offer a huge variety of different training opportunities. There is so much more than massage!
What’s the secret to a successful spa team?
Communication, teamwork, encouragement, sharing knowledge, being able to understand others and positivity are all very important.
What are your top three Elemis products?
Superfood, dynamic resurfacing, and the relaxing pillow mist. There is OPI and Lycon at Bannatynes, which I also love.
What are you looking for in an employee?
We are looking for someone who is open to learning, good at communication, has confidence in their practical treatments and can be enthusiastic about the beauty industry and opportunities! We are looking for a HNC qualified therapist, or a student who is on route to achieving one.
