This course provides experienced plumbers and heating engineers with the practical and theoretical knowledge required to effectively install and maintain air and ground source heat pumps.

The aim of this course is providing experience plumbing and heating engineers with the practical and theoretical knowledge required to effectively install and maintain air and ground source heat pumps and to assist in MCS accreditation.

Entry Requirements

Candidates wishing to receive a BPEC Biomass Heating Systems installer certificate must either have:

  • A SVQ Level 3 in plumbing or heating engineering, or
  • Several years’ experience in the plumbing/heating engineering trade AND:
  • A valid Unvented Hot Water qualification. If an unvented qualification is required see our Unvented Hot Water course.

Course Content

The course covers all the information needed to, install, commission and maintain air and/or ground source heat pump systems including:

  • Background and market demand
  • How heat pumps work - principles and components
  • Heat pump installation
  • Commissioning
  • Maintenance and fault finding
  • Health and Safety
