Information in the Making - Advancing Strategic Planning in Scotland

‘Information in the Making’: Advancing Strategic Planning in Scotland brought together the professionals and academics involved in developing and implementing evidence-based strategic spatial plans in Scotland, with a particular focus on the Highlands and Islands.

The seminar and workshop highlighted emerging best practices in the fields of stakeholder and community participation and of spatial data use and management, for integrated cross-sectoral spatial plan development.

Maximising effective stakeholder engagement and use of spatial data in Scotland was a key theme of the workshop.

Presentations considered GIS use in the public sector, identified gaps and obstacles as well as showcasing what works well in the Highlands and Islands. The National Planning Framework for Scotland and its role in strategic planning for the Highlands and Islands was presented and discussed.
