Visits can take place every 3 to 4 weeks within the workplace for practical assessments

  • Candidates training in the workplace can come to college for a full day to carry out practical assessments
  • Online exams take place in UHI Perth
  • Existing assessors within the workplace can assess candidate’s practical assessments
  • Assessor’s qualification can be gained through UHI Perth

SVQ in Hairdressing SCQF Level 5

Mandatory Group A
Candidate must complete all six units from Group A

  • Consult, Assess, Plan and Prepare for Hair
  • Implement and Maintain Safe, Hygienic and Effective Working Practices
  • Shampoo, Condition and Treat the Hair and Scalp
  • Set, Style and Dress Hair
  • Colour and Lighten the Hair
  • Cut and Clipper Hair Using Hairdressing Techniques

Optional Group B
Candidate must complete a minimum of one unit from Group B

  • Dry, Style and Finish Hair Using Hairdressing Techniques
  • Braid, Twist and Thread Wrap Hair

Optional Group C
Candidate must complete one unit from Group C or the remaining one unit from Group B

  • Perm and Neutralise Hair
  • Relax Hair Permanently
  • Apply Temporary Hair Attachments to Enhance a Style
  • Provide Basic Business Support and Services
  • Instruct and Advise on Products and Services

SVQ in Hairdressing SCQF Level 6

Mandatory Group A
Candidate must complete all six units from Group A

  • Consult, Assess, Plan and Prepare for Hair
  • Implement and Maintain Safe, Hygienic and Effective Working Practices
  • Creatively Set, Style, Dress and Finish Hair using Advanced Techniques
  • Combine Hairdressing Techniques to Create a Bespoke Restyled Look
  • Creatively Colour and Lighten the Hair Using Advanced Techniques
  • Provide Hair Colour Corrective Services

Optional Group B
Candidate must complete a minimum of two units from Group B

  • Cultivate, Maintain and Repair Locks.
  • Provide Advanced Perming Techniques.
  • Provide Hair Smoothing Treatments.
  • Relax Hair Permanently.
  • Attach hair Using Heat, Chemical Adhesive and/or Advanced Techniques.
  • Develop, Enhance and Evaluate Promotional Activities.
  • Contribute to the Financial Effectiveness of the Business.
  • Plan, Prepare and Participate in Competitions in Hair Sector.
  • Undertake Freelance Work
