Motor Vehicle lecturers get their running shoes on
Automotive Engineering lecturers Duncan Reid and Norman Brunton completed a half marathon on Saturday 5th February.
They ran four circuits around Arthurs Seat in Edinburgh in horrible wind and rain and declared it as: “The hardest run we have ever done!”
Despite the weather, they both finished in a very respectable 1hr 56 min, Norman coming in at 59th and Duncan 60th out of 109 runners. Duncan said: “We are both delighted to have completed this challenge” while Norman added: “The weather meant it was pretty wild at the top, it felt like we weren’t moving at times!”
Prior to the race, Duncan explained: “Norman has been running for about four years and I took it up during the first lockdown. We have never been sporty but felt we needed to exercise more and the benefit has been huge. Both our fitness and mental health is much improved. When I first started to run, I couldn’t complete 1k without stopping to walk but made a point of trying this every day. I slowly built-up to run further without stopping over 2/3 months. We have both run 10k races but never a half-marathon, however, are in good spirits about the challenge! My youngest son Owen has ADHD and is part of a brilliant club which is the reason for the fundraising.”
