Scholarship success celebrated with generous benefactors

The workforce of the future strengthened their relationship with potential future employers at an event on Thursday 22 November. Perth College UHI students who worked hard and excelled in their studies celebrated gaining a scholarship with lunch in the College’s Award Winning Gallery Restaurant which also served to thank benefactors for their generous support.

This year, 45 scholarships were gifted from some of Perthshire’s most prestigious and innovative employers. Those present at this year’s event heard from student Lianne Hall who was awarded the Mercure Perth Hotel scholarship and Helping Hand Scholarship in 2017. The benefits and support provided by the scholarship gave Lianne the encouragement and confidence to successfully complete her HNC, she is now a student on the HND Hospitality Management course.

Dr Margaret Cook, Principal and Chief Executive at Perth College UHI, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome our scholarship students, along with their benefactors and staff from Perth College UHI, to the scholarship lunch. This event gives us the opportunity to thank those organisations for their vital contribution to the student experience. We are grateful to all of the businesses, individuals and trusts who give our students the opportunity to enhance their learning, enabling them to meet their full potential during their studies to confidently advance to successful and fulfilling careers.”

Fiona Leslie, Development and Alumni Relations Manager at Perth College UHI, added: “The scholarship programme was established to enable our partners, organisations and friends to help develop the next generation of talented individuals. A whole range of opportunities exist from financial awards to professional mentoring and work experience, enriching the student experience and enabling them to go on to enjoy an even more rewarding career.

“In most cases, the awards are given to the most aspiring students who work hard and excel in their studies. We are continually trying to extend the range of awards to make sure that every student has the chance to apply for a scholarship to suit their career aspirations. This year, we also have a number of awards for students who are from care experienced backgrounds and who would benefit from a helping hand.”
