Local employers strengthened their relationship with the workforce of the future at a Perth College UHI event.

Over 40 guests, students and lecturers attended the ‘scholarship lunch’ in the College’s award-winning training restaurant, to celebrate student’s successes in winning a scholarship and to thank benefactors for their support. Those present heard from Margaret Munckton, Principal, who explained the Development Trust Scholarship Fund is designed to help students who are committed to their studies and keen to develop their skills to reach their full potential.

This scheme, managed by the Perth College UHI Development Trust, provides thousands of pounds of support each year, with over 40 awarded across the curriculum. The award is usually financial, which students can use to help purchase equipment or materials linked to their course. Some also offer professional mentoring or additional training to help students to gain experience and achieve their dreams.

Fiona Leslie, Development and Alumni Relations Manager said: “The scholarship programme was established to enable our partners, organisations and friends to help develop the next generation of talented individuals. They are a great way to help students to engage with industry and gain added employability skills.

“Winning a scholarship is a great personal achievement for our students and gives them a huge confidence boost. The partnership also has great advantages for the benefactor as they have the chance to recruit graduates to meet their business needs and play a key role in developing a highly skilled workforce, thus investing in Scotland’s economic future.”
